GP: Contribution To Post-Production

Contribution To Post-Production

During the post-production process I got involved with the editing a lot (I did the majority) whilst letting other people add in their input. Editing our final piece combined a lot of editing techniques on Adobe Premiere Elements. The majority of the techniques I used were also techniques I used in AS. For example, I used the cutting tool where I moved the pointer to the place on the clip I wanted to cut and applied the cutting tool by selecting the 'scissors symbol'. Some of the techniques I used at A2 included cutting, using time stretch, using beat markers and the effects these techniques created include continuity, cuts on the beat and actions on the beat.

I contributed to the digipak by contributing ideas for the digipak and the colour and font of the text. For example, we were trying different shades of yellow to create a gold and regal (due to Lorde and the sword fighting sequences that are suggested so frequently in our piece) effect and I suggested what colour we should use for the text for the final product. Also, I researched digipaks of similar artists which was used in our pitch.

For the advert I research similar artists to Lorde (which was quite hard as Lorde's music was hard to confine to one distinctive genre) and found what was conventional of their adverts. I also tried to pinpoint Lorde's genre to decide what magazine we should put our advert in and decided on Q magazine as it was a big enough magazine to relate to Lorde's 'pop-side' (and she has a lot of fans), but alternative enough to relate to her less 'conventional-mainstream-side' (alternative side). All my findings contributed to the final product.

A2G3: Music Video

A2G3: Final Production Update 12/12/2014

Today's progress was based on making any and all of the last minute details for the music video and the print work before the 5 PM deadline.

Isaac

The original plan for Thursday 11th was to colour correct the music video at home, as the school's computers did not possess the software to achieve this. However, Isaac quickly discovered that he could not access the files from home, as well as missing several shots. As such, we agreed that we had to do the colour correction and grading at school. Isaac spent the majority of the day editing the footage on DaVinci Resolve, and then exporting it before finally uploading it to YouTube and embedding it on Blogger.

Alex

Alex spent the Thursday lessons on finishing off the Magazine adverts. However, he spent some time today (Friday) checking through the digipak and the ads to ensure that they were correctly composed and that the images didn't fall too far into the bleeding and trimming lines. He also finalized the full page magazine ad.

Georgia

Georgia spent some time editing some of the posts on the blog, adding in any images that would help support the points each of the group members has made in terms of research and production.

Collectively

Collectively, we worked together on viewing the development of the colour grading, ensuring that it turned out well.

A2G3: Digipak update

We have discussed the prospects of the digipak, agreeing that the most ideal way of completing the digipak would be by each group member being responsible for 2 of the panes. That way, we minimise the risk of the album cover being too similar in style, as it becomes increasingly difficult to create new panes without it looking too much the same.

So far however, we have collectively agreed for a particular style, shown in the images below:
Initial mock up

A work in progress of the final digipak
However, we agreed that the black background is too amateurish and doesn't completely reflect the mood that we want to convey. As such, the final version will include a more textured background, taken from the tunic worn by the protagonist in the music video, and similarly the crest will be taken directly taken from the tunic. Nevertheless, we collectively agreed that the stills taken from the music video were of high enough quality that we could include them onto the digipak, as seen on the mock up and the final version.

A2G3: Progress Update 04/12/14

Isaac

Today Isaac worked with Georgia in lesson (and later on his own in his frees) to finish the final edit of the last scene when Tristan wakes up. They got the scene edited and Isaac left Georgia to work on ordering the scenes and timing their connections. Isaac went on to work with Alex on his draft for the album cover, and also discussed Gwen's draft with her.

Georgia

Georgia spent the lesson editing the final section with Isaac, and after he left she managed to order all of the scenes correctly and join the final section to the dream sequence. During this process she noticed two major problems which we will speak on in greater detail later on; namely the bedroom scene is too long for the space which we have to fit it in, and the computer is too laggy (even after saving, restarting, deleting the cache, leaving time for conforming and rendering) to edit effectively, the music keeps cutting out. This means that shaving away the seconds in the original shoot is extremely challenging.

Alex

Alex spent the lesson fine-tuning and improving the digipak mock-up using original images taken from both the shoot and subsequent efforts. The group has a variety of ideas as to how the album cover should look, and this branched approach to the cover means we have the greatest opportunities for discovering good combinations of photos etc.

Gwen

Today Gwen started moving on to the next stage of the digipak, the advert. She took the image of Tristan in the viking hat (with the coloured body but black and white background) and added appropriate text to make it suitable for a half-page spread in a magazine, and the group are very happy with it.
